America's Promise Grant

America’s Promise Grant, locally named "SoCal’s Promise”, is a new initiative that will recruit, educate, train and employ San Diego and Inland Empire residents who have found barriers to finding work – including veterans & military spouses, Native Americans, formerly incarcerated, incumbent workers, the unemployed and non-traditional learners – for careers in advanced manufacturing, information technology and emerging technology careers.  This program builds upon prior successful grant funded models established at  MiraCosta Technology Career Institute and  Chaffey College InTech to provide accelerated technical training that leads to well-paying, middle-and high-skilled, high-growth jobs. SoCal Promise initiative also creates a scalable model of sequenced training programs for partnered colleges to employ within longer term credit CTE programs, with a goal to increase student retention and job acquisition rates through intense support services. SoCal’s Promise also encourages and helps define clear educational pathways leading toward advanced degrees allowing Americans to fill H-1B visa occupations.

As part of the SoCal Promise, community colleges partner ( MiraCosta Technology Career Institute, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Colleges and Chaffey InTech ) with industry leaders, including the San Diego Maritime Alliance, the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership for Southern California, the National Tool & Machining Association, California Steel Industries, and the Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire.

The Maritime Alliance was awarded funding from MiraCosta's Technology Career Institute’s SoCal Promise Grant to advance BlueTech opportunities for students (especially underrepresented groups) – for Blue Tech careers, anywhere from advanced manufacturing to underwater robotics to marine biology.
